Just came back from Giant. The following conversation take place when i was buying rou chuo mian aka minced meat noodles aka ba chor mee.
Slightly obese kid: I wan minced meat noodles.
Stallkeeper B(China woman): Rou chuo mian shi bu shi?
Slightly obese kid: Huh?! i wan minced meat noodles.
Stallkeeper A(He heards, and took over): Dui, ta yao rou chuo mian.
Slightly obese kid: Dun wan vegetables & bigger packet(I gave the wierd expression!?)
Stallkeeper A: Pardon?
Slightly obese kid: Bigger packet.
Stallkeeper A: Takeaway issit?
Slightly obese kid: No, bigger packet.
Stallkeeper A: More noodles issit?
Slightly obese kid: Erm..Ya
Omg la.. i was beside the boy horh... im dumbfounded la. Bigger packet?! wth la..even i would also think of takeaway right. Who doesnt agree with me! The main thing isnt in this conversation but whats wrong with Singaporean chinese nowadays... even if u cant speak chinese well, isnt that so hard to understand chinese? After all, our mother tongue IS chinese. Sometimes i really admire the french, japanese etc. They can speak french/japanese + english. Although i say so much about ppl, i think i am also losing part of my heritage... i cant understand hokkien and teochew well. Haix. Hopefully my descendants will at least be able to speak both chinese and english
